April 11th 1905 - Returning to the homestead

The 11th day. Struck tent, loaded our wagon, started on the trail. Near noon time we had quite a load for our small oxen but we gave them lots of time and they did very well indeed. At night we pitched our tent on the prairie. It took us three days to get to our destination. Just before we reached we met one of the brothers walking back. He was the younger. He told me they had quarreled and he had left his brother and was going back. I persuaded him to stay and come with me which he did and we pitched our tent on the homestead that afternoon and rested the rest of the day.

That night the other brother was sproling around the tent with a loaded rifle to shoot the lot of us. This was his own confession but he took another thought.
